Phew…
People often ask me, “What’s it like to be a Daily Money Manager?”
Well, the last few weeks have been hectic: I had a crisis situation with a client I had to deal with but…
It’s all a day in the life of a Daily Money Manager!
No two days are ever alike and it reminded me of a story I told in a previous blog post I did a few years ago that I thought I would share again:
“I have always prided myself on being a trusted advocate and referral resource for my clients. As a Daily Money Manager, here’s what that looked like for a client:
I had an emergency situation with a client recently.** The situation was that she fell in her assisted living apartment and had to go out to the hospital. She was admitted for three days and then went to a rehabilitative nursing facility to get her strength back.
Unfortunately, after I thought she was all settled into the rehab unit, a week later, she fell again and had to be sent back to the hospital. This time, she fractured her elbow and chipped her hip!
Because of her decline in health, seven days after returning to the rehab facility (again), she was unable to complete the required rehab services and was essentially getting kicked out of the rehab unit.
I got this call on a Tuesday that the rehab unit wanted me to come and pick her up on Friday. The problem: I was leaving to go out of town the very next day and wouldn’t be back until Monday!
To complicate matters even more, because of her severe decline in health, she was unable to go back to her original assisted living apartment without requiring 24 hours of personal home care services–indefinitely. This would be an expense she could ill-afford on a long-term basis.
So now I needed to figure out a way to get the nursing home to keep her until I could get back into town; find her a new place to live once I got back; and get her moved as quickly as possible because the nursing home would start billing her $250 per day now that she didn’t qualify for rehab!
One of my strengths is being able to get things done for my clients and this situation truly put those skills to the test!
And this is where being an excellent referral source comes in handy…
I was able to pick up the phone, find someone to help me find her a new place to live; and find someone to get her moved within three days of my getting back into town.
Overall, I was able to put my client’s mind at ease and get her squared away in a new apartment in less than 10 days.”
As I recall, this situation worked out wonderfully–even if it did give me a few new gray hairs!
But, this is what’s it’s like some days being a Daily Money Manger; and I’m so happy to be there for our clients who need this type of service.
If you know a senior who needs a trusted advocate and referral resource, give us a call! We offer free, 15-minute, no obligation phone consultations to see if the service is right for you.
**(I was the Durable Power of Attorney for this particular client. The services I provided her went beyond what is typical for a Daily Money Manager.)
